“Unit “Batman” ceased to exist, not because their activities were forbidden by law enforcement. It became a part of one of the units of the LPR People’s Police, where now a large part of the fighters is serving. Therefore, it had to obey the orders of the commander-in-chief of People’s police,”-  he explained.

Earlier, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s office reported that on December 30, 2014 the agency initiated criminal proceedings against members of the battalion GBR “Batman” with call-signs “Maniac”, “Omega”, “Duck”, “Chechen”, “Batman”, “Luis”, “Fobus”, “Janek”, “Khokhol”, “Subota”, “Zema”, “Tabletka” and other on the illegal imprisonment of two or more persons, torture using weapons and murder, abduction of civilians, extortion and robbery. On the same day the Prosecutor’s office instructed the law enforcement agencies to detain fighters of the battalion and to ensure their appearance at the Prosecutor General’s office for questioning.

During the apprehension on January 1, 2015, the head of the battalion “Batman”, Alexander Bednov, refused to comply with the legitimate demands of the task force to disarm and put up a fierce armed resistance. In the shootout he was killed.

During searches in places of residence of the members of the gang were found a large number of firearms and ammunition, cash and property, previously illegally seized from civilians, and four private homes were returned to their owners. The criminal investigation is ongoing. The facts confirming the illegal activities of detained persons are being established.
