T-50 (PAK FA) state tests are entering their final phase, the aircraft is performing outstandingly well and it is superior to foreign equivalents, Bondarev told journalists.

“The tests are proceeding at full speed. The aircraft will enter service next year once the testing is complete,” Bondarev added. he also explained that the aircraft has stealth characteristics, which today is as important a feature as speed, which in the case of the T-50 is greater than twice the speed of sound. Guided missiles will be the most important component of its arsenal.

“It will be equipped with the most modern weapons we currently have. And as soon as something new appears, we’ll adapt it,” provided that it does not require a major redesign, Bondarev explained.

“Its parameters exceed those of every foreign aircraft in the foreseeable future. It will be no worse than the US F-22 and F-35, and better in most respects.”

RF Deputy Defense Minister announced earlier that, due to the “new economic conditions” the Ministry of Defense might reduce the number of fighters procured. The initial plans were to buy 10 fighters for familiarization, and then a second batch of 60 aircraft.
