“Social Zaporozhye” declared that the draft of the city’s coat of arms contains Nazi symbols

Deputies of “Social Zaporozhye” said that they will not allow the propaganda of fascism in the city.

“Today some deputies are trying to introduce Nazi symbols  into the coat of arms of Zaporozhye. We will not allow this, ” -says the deputy of the city council from the group  “Social Zaporozhye,” Ivan Kostenko, – Rune “Odal” was used as the badge of the staff of the Main Directorate of the SS on issues of race and settlements and was the emblem of the SS division “Prince Eugen”. Double “Sieg” rune was developed by Nazi symbolist Walter Heck and adopted by Himmler as the emblem of the SS.”

Members of “Social Zaporozhye” believe that the issue of citywide symbols must go through an open competition, public discussion and be worked out in detail by all the deputies.

“The country has passed a law banning Communist and Nazi symbols. And it is just mind-boggling when, with on one hand they want to rename streets, which the Zaporozhians are used to and entire cities, and on the other hand, certain lovers of Nazism try to impose on the city a coat of arms with Nazi symbols. This is a distortion of history and an insult to the memory of the millions of people who gave their lives in the struggle against fascism, – believes Ivan Kostenko, – it is unacceptable that the symbol of the city contains some elements of Nazi symbolism”.
