The draft of the new amphibious assault ship, capable of replacing the French ” Mistral” helicopter carriers, was developed by Nevsky design bureau.

“The universal landing ship type “Priboy” [“Surf”] with a displacement of 14 thousand tons, will be able to carry up to 8 Ka-52K and Ka-27 helicopters. Its construction is planned to begin next year,” – said a source from the defense industry, who asked to remain anonymous. According to him, “Priboy” will be armed with air defense systems “Pantsir-M”. The ship can carry up to five hundred marines and about 40-60 units of equipment. The width of the ship will be 25 meters, and its length – 165 meters.

It was noted that the production of a military vessel could begin in 2016.

Pravda.ru already wrote that Paris refused to send the previously ordered by Rosoboronexport [Russian Defense Export] two “Mistral” helicopter carriers because of the political differences that emerged between the countries because of the situation in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea to Russia. The contract value amounts to € 1.2 billion. Under the terms of the contract, if France will not give the ships to the Russian customer, it will have to pay a penalty in the amount of 10 billion euros.

Although during the last negotiations, the French representatives asked Russia to “forget” about “Mistral” for the amount of 785 million euros.
