The cities of Donbass are once again subjected to shelling. The shells are falling on the territory of the abandoned chemical plant, the plant that was recently discussed at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, were an agreement with NATO was ratified about reburial of radioactive waste. NATO wants to help Kiev to service the storage sites.  The same document indicates that one of the dumps is located on the outskirts of Donetsk.

Alexey  Baranov:

The fact that the Verkhovna Rada ratified the law on the agreement between the Ukrainian  Cabinet of Ministers and NATO on the reburial of radioactive waste from Soviet times had worried the residents of Donbass, because the attachment to the document mentioned the territory of Donetsk People’s Republic.  From 1960’s to 1990’s six radioactive waste dumps were created on the territory of Ukraine, one of them on the territory of Donetsk state chemical plant.  The exact data about the volume and dimensions is missing, all that’s known is that they are not deep, and are the so-called “surface deposits”.

The attachment to the document says that safety of the site and its protection is provided by the owners. In the case with Donetsk chemical plant these are the DPR authorities. Meanwhile Ukrainian heavy artillery has been methodically shelling the plant since the beginning of the year, the latest such shelling occurred on the night of June 16- 17th.

“Everything has been blown up!”

These are the images of a giant crater of the explosion. You can see that many trees and plant structures were damaged and destroyed by the blast wave. Rails and cargo cars have been destroyed. It’s hard to imagine what kind of ecological disaster would happen if the shell hit the radioactive waste dump, located nearby.

Under increasing Ukrainian artillery strikes of Donetsk no one can guarantee that such a strike will not happen, which can at any moment end up in a catastrophe comparable in its scale to the Chernobyl disaster.

KR: They didn’t joke when they said, they want to make Donbass uninhabitable!
