Representatives of radical organization stated that they are not seeking to start a civil war, but want to “attract attention and fight against evil”.
KIEV, 17 Jul — RIA Novosti. The radical organization “Right sector” declared that it does not intend to continue armed resistance to police, said the representative of the Ukrainian volunteer corps “Right sector” Andrey Sharaskin on air on TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
On July 11, in the city of Mukachevo, Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, fighters of the extremist organization “Right sector” got into a shootout with police and [security of] local businesses, used mortars and machine guns. It was reported about three victims and 13 injured. The gunmen took refuge in the woods and said they will lay down their arms only if they’re told by their leader Dmitry Yarosh. They explained their actions by fighting against smuggling, in which according to them local officials were involved. Currently four fighters have been detained, six are still hiding from law enforcement, there is no phone connection with them.
“The most important thing is that we need to first prove to the society that we are not seeking to start a civil war, and God forbid, to continue armed resistance. We attract attention and fight against evil, and are not trying to destabilize the situation in the country. Therefore, the escalation of the conflict – and it is the official position – is not acceptable. We want to alleviate the tension,” – said Sharaskin.
