“Open Society” institute, also known as the Soros Foundation, may leave Russia in the near future because of its placement on the list of undesirable organizations.
According to the head of the committee “Civil Assistance” Svetlana Gannushkina, the Soros Foundation ceased to accept applications for grants.
“I’m afraid that the Soros Foundation is leaving Russia. They are very worried if we will be able to finish existing projects, if we will lose the opportunity to work with committed money,” – she told Interfax.
In early July it was announced that the stop-list of unwanted NGO’s included the Soros Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, Freedom House and other organizations. After the MacArthur Foundation announced that it would stop its activities in Russia.
“Open Society” institute, founded by George Soros, supports programs in education, culture, arts, health and civic initiatives. Organization has headquarters in New York and Budapest, and offices in 30 countries.
