Littlehirosima: Donbass, I’m here

Original written by Yevdokia “Dunya” Sheremetyeva on her littlehirosima blog; translated from Russian by J.Hawk and originally posted at South Front. September 22nd, 2015

Day three on the Donbass.
Day three, more like year three.
Did I now about you back then? A long time ago?
What were you for me then?
A spot on the map? Conversation on a Crimean beach?

Now you are eternity for me.
A night-time road.
Covered by low-hanging smoke.

Customs and long lines.
And the usual questions: “Where to and why?”

Burned out tanks, shattered roofs.
Childrens’ laughter and ice-cream which we brought.
Yesterday, for the little kids.

Corridors full of forgotten elderly.
Endless, maddening rhythm.
Packages, loading, and travel.
Assisting those with pleading eyes.
I’ll soon report, soon write about everything.
Now I’m heading for Gorlovka, which I never visited.
I hope it won’t be shelled.
Thanks to all of you.
For your support, your words and deeds.
I Love You.
