“World youth forum of compatriots in Sofia: We remember! We are proud!”
The opening of the World Youth Forum “Victory in the Memory of Generations,” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held in Sofia.
This year, the youth forum brought together compatriots from 72 countries and all continents. A number of official guests welcomed participants. The deputy director of the department for work with compatriots of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Vladimir Goncharenko, noted that the World Youth Forum took the baton from the World Congress of Compatriots which was held on November 5-6 in Moscow. The youth forum in Sofia took place for the sixth time, but in 2015 it has evolved from a forum involving European and CIS countries into a global one. Advisor to the Russian embassy in Bulgaria Kirill Rynza expressed great appreciation to the organizers of the forum in Bulgaria, which included the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Bulgaria, the “Union of Compatriots” Federation and the National Association “Together with Russia.” The year 2015 marked a great, historical anniversary, the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, to which the World Youth Forum was devoted. Representatives of the Russian embassy in Bulgaria reported that this year has been full of events dedicated to the Great Victory. The representative of Rus-Cooperation, Pavel Zhuravlev, remarked that the World Youth Forum represents a platform for communication between compatriots all over the world which will help to affirm a new image of Russia by working through projects that arise today.
The mayor of the city of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, delivered a congratulatory address in which she demonstrated her respect for the World Youth Forum and reminded everyone that the Victory, its memory and recognition, cannot be forgotten by Bulgarian society.
A ceremonial and exciting action was held, “The Wall of Remembrance – Internal Regiment,” in which each participant could write the name of their ancestor who participated in the terrible war. Compatriots observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the terrorist acts which shook the world over the past year.
After official greetings, the stage of the World Youth Forum was passed on to the youth. A representative from Armenia recalled that the greatest wealth which we possess are veterans who can pass knowledge on to us so that we never forget such a terrible war. For his part, the chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Bulgaria, Igor Zavyalov, advised those present to defend historical truth and recalled that the victors need respect and understanding from subsequent generations. Representatives from Kyrgyzstan reminded everyone that May 9 is a holiday of unity, and that we should not forget the price which was paid to create the world in which we live.
The forum was organized by the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Bulgaria, the “Union of Compatriots” Federation, the National Association “Together with Russia,” and was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Government Commission on Foreign Compatriot Affairs, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Department of External Economic and International Relations of the city of Moscow, the Federal agency “Rus-Cooperation”,the Fund for Support and Defense of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad and the Fund “Russian World.”
