The seventh wave of mobilization into the armed forces of Ukraine will begin in 2016.

The speaker of the General Staff of Ukraine, Vladislav Seleznev, stated this live on Radio Vesti.

“As of today, preparations for a seventh wave of mobilization are not being planned in this year. In accordance with rotation and demobilization plans and the transfer of soldiers to the reserves laid out this year, a seventh mobilization will be planned at the beginning of next year. Then preparations in the framework of a seventh mobilization wave will begin,” he said.

Six mobilization waves have already been held in Ukraine. The president of the country, Petro Poroshenko, reported in mid October, 2015 that there are no plans to hold a new wave of mobilization this fall, and there will be only conscription for military service. Currently, soldiers mobilized during the fourth, fifth, and sixth waves are still serving in the Ukrainian army. In the case of a declaration of a seventh wave, those mobilized during the first, second, and third waves will once again be called forth.

Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Stepan Poltorak, reported that the number of those serving in the Ukrainian army doubled to 280,000 over the course of this year. On the contact line in Donbass, there 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

Plans for mobilization regularly fail in Ukraine, and reasons for this include the escape of conscripts abroad.
