Pyatt Urges Rada to Adopt Law on Privatization

The US Ambassador has stressed the need to bring privatization to Ukraine in compliance with international standards.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, hopes that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine this week will pass an act that allows the privatization of large state assets. “It is important to bring Ukraine in line with international standards on privatisation, it will cease the depletion of the state budget state-owned enterprises. This week the Rada will vote on (the bill) No. 2319, it has the opportunity to demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to modernization, reforms, fight against corruption,” wrote Pyatt on the Twitter service.

Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers extended to 2016 the basic resolution of 12th May No. 271 on the privatization in 2015, according to the website of the state property Fund.

According to the poll of the sociological group “Rating”, Ukrainians in general oppose the privatization of state enterprises. Answering the question about the fate of remaining 4000 state properties of enterprises, 49% of respondents answered that they must remain state-owned companies, 30% agree to sell only a part of them, but most agreed to leave them in state ownership, and 12% agreed to sell most of the remnants of state property, and 1% are willing to sell all state property.
