The government of Saudi Arabia has sent dozens of armored vehicles and tanks to suppress the demonstrators, angered by the execution of the Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr, reports the Iranian media.
“The government of Saudi Arabia has sent dozens of armored vehicles and military units in the area of the town of al-Qatif in the East of the country to quell violent protests of the population who demonstrated, in connection with the execution of Shiite Muslim cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr”, — a message from the Fars News Agency said. Mass demonstrations were held in the home city of an-Nimr in al-Qatif and other areas in the East of Saudi Arabia with a predominantly Shiite population, reports TASS.
In connection with the execution of Shiite theologian on Sunday, Iran declared a public holiday in all the highest secular and spiritual educational institutions. Expectedly Iran also held mass demonstration against political executions in Riyadh. The first protest action held a group of students in front of the Saudi Embassy in Tehran. The demonstrators shouted slogans condemning the actions of al Saud (the ruling Royal dynasty).
