U.S. President Barack Obama extended the sanctions against confidants and relatives of the former head of Libya Muammar Gaddafi for another year. This was reported by the press-service of the White house.

The reason for extending the restrictive measures was to preserve measures against “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and U.S. foreign policy”, RIA Novosti reported.

According to Obama, the lifting of sanctions, with the increasing strengthening of the “Islamic State” in Libya, and the attempts of Parliament to argue with the government of national unity on the right to control resources will lead to greater destabilization.

The text of the renewal document was sent to the U.S Congress.
