The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko spoke about how he went to Crimea in the spring of 2014 before the referendum on the reunification of the Peninsula with Russia. The video of Poroshenko that recapped the event was published on his Facebook.

Poroshenko said that he went there for a reason, and with the intention to “dispel the fog of Kremlin propaganda”.

“I remember how on February 28th 2014 I arrived in Ukrainian Crimea with the firm intention to change the situation, with the belief that even a single person is able to dispel the fog of Kremlin propaganda. Since then my intentions have not changed. Crimea is Ukraine,” said Poroshenko.

Crimea and Sevastopol became Russian regions as a result of the results of the March referendum in 2014. Reunification with Russia was supported by 96,77% of Crimeans and 95.6% of Sevastopol. Despite this, the Ukrainian authorities continue to consider Crimea as its territory.
