Recall that in June 2014 the Parliament of South Ossetia declared that they will submit the question of joining the Russian Federation to a public vote. Discussion of the referendum began in October 2015. The Republic’s leadership has repeatedly said that many citizens speaks in favour of the accession to Russia.

Leonid Tibilov stressed that the referendum should be held in a special form. It is planned that there will be a vote on amendments to the Constitution, according to which the head of the Republic will be able to appeal to the President of Russia with a request to include the Republic into the Russian Federation. Then Tibilov will immediately implement the appropriate initiatives.

“We are troubled by a sharp complication of the international situation, the events in Ukraine, in Syria and throughout the Middle East. In these circumstances, we feel the need to implement our dream of reunification with the great Russia and the solution to the divided Ossetian people even more” — quotes TASS.

Recall that South Ossetia is an independent state recognized by Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Tuvalu. The authorities declared independence from Georgia in December 1991.
