The official representative of the State Department of the USA, John Kirby, during a briefing gave a very vague answer to the question of the RT correspondent, who recalled the words of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the necessity of choosing between Ankara and the Kurds.
The representative of the U.S. Department evaded the question, saying that Washington interacts with both sides.
“There are not any issues. We are partners with Turkey. We are allies with Turkey. There are no questions here,” said Kirby.
On the question of how the United States is able to cope with the situation, when one of their allies calls the other a terrorist group, the State Department representative stated that there is nothing difficult about this situation. The U.S. does not consider the party of the “Democratic Union” of Syrian Kurds as terrorists, on the contrary, he believes that its members are “effective fighters against ISIS inside Syria.”
When asked to clarify who leads a more effective fight against ISIS — Turkey or the Kurds, Kirby again was unable to make a choice, saying only that “everyone is useful”.
Furthermore, the State Department spokesman was reminded that weapons provided to the members of the Kurdish party fall into the hands of terrorists which are used against the Turkish military. Kirby could only say that Washington was aware of this and “the situation was being closely monitored”.
Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Washington to choose either Turkey or the party of the “Democratic Union” Syrian Kurds as their ally. “How can we trust you? Who are your partners?” — said Erdogan.
