The military operation in Syria has cost the budget of the Ministry of Defense of Russia 33 billion Rubles ($464 million). This was stated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Even after the end of the campaign, money from the budget will need to be allocated for exercises and boathouses. Putin stressed that these costs are justified.

“The tasks set before us, in general, are solved, and units  have returned to their places of permanent deployment, coming home to Russia”, — quotes TASS from Putin’s statement.

According to Putin, Russia’s participation in the Syrian conflict has created the conditions for the restoration of peace in the country. He explained that Russia helped to resolve a civil war.

The agency did not report a single mention of the Islamic State in the message. However, according to Putin, the main task was a blow to terrorism. Also, the Russian military managed “to strengthen the armed forces of Syria,” and now they will be able to deter attacks by the terrorists, Putin said.

On Tuesday, March 15th, RBC announced that the operation in Syria could cost at least 38 billion rubles. At the end of October 2015, the cost of one day of operation was about 156.3 million Rubles. Since the beginning of the campaign, the costs could grow by almost half.

On 14th March, Putin instructed the Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to begin the withdrawal of troops from Syria.
