The Kramatorsk Prosecutor’s office is investigating the murder of a local resident who was tortured to death by two employees of the SBU, beating him until he admitted his cooperation with the authorities of the unrecognized DPR.
The circumstances of the case were established by the Kramatorsk court on March 18th.
The tragedy happened in November 2014. The police detained a man suspected of involvement in “terrorist activities” at the checkpoint of the “Kiev – Kharkiv” highway. The detaining police officers informed the anti-terrorist center at the SBU in Kramatorsk.
The Lieutenant Colonel and captain of the SBU, which had to deal with the detainee, were sent to Izyum. Upon arrival, the security service took the detainee from the police station and transported him to a separate room of the SBU (3 Telman street).
Here the officers of the security services tried to beat out a confession from the man. The detainee was beaten on the head, torso, choked, several ribs were broken, but he did not admit anything. A few hours later, the detainee was returned to the Police Department, where he soon died.
According to the coroner, the death of a detainee occurred as a result of blunt trauma to the body in combination with shock: simply put, he was beaten to death.
Operatives are suspected of illegal deprivation of freedom and abuse of power (article 146, part 2 and part 3, article 365 of the criminal code of Ukraine). Because one of the suspects, the captain, did not wait for the results of the investigation and chose to hide, part 4 of article 407 of the criminal code (unauthorized abandonment of place of service) has also been added to the list of charges against him.
