The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Aleksey Pushkov, commented on the report of the Latvian government commission for estimating the damage done by “Soviet occupation.” Ruta Pazdera, the head of the commission, said in the report that the damage done by Soviet authorities amounts to 185 billion euros.

According to Pushkov, instead of busying themselves with accounting, the Latvian government should explain why 10% of Latvia’s population has abandoned the country since its joining the European Union.

“The Latvian ‘accountants’ should not count the damage from the Soviet epoch, but explain why 200 thousand people, or 10% of Latvians, have left the country in the EU era,” Pushkov wrote on his Twitter account.

Earlier, the mayor of Riga, Nils Ušakovs, mocked Ruta Pazdera’s estimate of the damage done by “Soviet occupation”, after which he was threatened with five years in prison.

“Now I need to demand 185,000,000,000 euros in compensation from Russia”
