The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andrey Parubiy, stated that paying homage to the heroes who defends their homeland during the Great Patriotic War is nothing more than part of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine. In Parubiy’s words, commemorative actions such as those to be held in Odessa on May 9th are part of the Kremlin’s destabilization of Ukraine.

Parubiy stated: “On May 9th, traditional slogans will be used which were employed by Soviet propaganda. Of course, these slogans cover attempts to speculate on the history of the Second World War and manipulate veterans into confrontation around these slogans…law-enforcement organs and the government will not allow any such scenarios which would be used by the Kremlin to destabilize Ukraine.”
