“Ukraine can be proud that it collapsed the USSR – ex-President Kravchuk”

Ukraine can be “proud” of the fact that it became a state that destroyed the USSR, the country’s first president, Leonid Kravchuk, believes.

“Ukraine can be proud of what she was and is, and that in 1991 she became the country that destroyed the Soviet Union, the last empire, the most terrible one,” he stated at a press conference.

In his opinion, if on December 1st, 1991 Ukraine had not held the referendum on independence, then the agreement on the disintegration of the USSR would hardly have been signed. [Note from J. Arnoldski – Not only is this an illogical statement, it is a blatant lie. Ukraine in fact voted in its overwhelming majority to preserve the USSR in March 1991 – it was the unabashed disregarding of the referendum that spurred the signing of the Belavezha Accords that dissolved the union and the illogical and inconsistent so-called “Ukrainian independence referendum”.]

The ex-president stated that over the past 25 years Ukraine has managed to greatly increase its “separation from Russia,” which enables the country to “live differently.” Kravchuk asserted that Ukraine’s separation is what reduces Russia’s ambitions to a significant extent in both foreign and domestic policies.

“Energy separation. In the end, we now have energy independence. Secondly, organizational and political independence. I want to say that, in my opinion, this is a very important problem which we solved, which could be called a civilizational break,” Kravchuk stated.

In addition, he noted that over all the years of Ukraine’s independence, it still has been unable to unite its entire people or increase the population’s standard of living.

“Well, Mykola, we’ve destroyed all the Muscovite Soviet stuff! Let’s go to the cave and celebrate the victory!”
