Works on the creation of the newest combat vehicle BMD-5 began in Russia. This was stated at the international military-technical forum “Army-2016”, by the representative of the Volgograd tractor plant – RIA Novosti

The source of the Agency noted that in shaping of the machine developers are guided by trends that have emerged in NATO countries and East Asia. That is, the new Russian BMD will be tracked, front-wheel drive combat vehicle with the crew placed in an armored hull.

The interviewee explained that the basis was taken from the BMP-3 “Dragoon”. The new vehicle will have the same fighting compartment with 30-millimeter cannon and 100mm gun-launcher with the “Falcon” sights, equipped with rangefinders, as well as television and thermal image channels.

At the same time, by the idea of the developers, all the crew and troops will be placed inside the chassis, behind the engine-transmission compartment, which will provide additional protection.

Increased habitable volume of the vehicle facilitates the movement of crew and troops inside, and placing of personal stuff. Large stern hatch provides quick and safe exit through the open ramp”, – said the expert.

Recall that the BMP-3M “Dragoon”, which formed the basis for the development of new vehicles was established in “Special design Bureau of machine building” part of the “tractor plants” company. Its powerplant is a four-stroke megalopoly engine UTD-32 type with a capacity of 816 horsepower with a turbocharger.

Aside from the combat module “100+30” “Dragoon” is equipped with a complex of active protection “arena-e”, which ensures protection from guided and unguided anti-tank missiles and grenades of the enemy.

The fire control system allows to automatically detect, track and attack targets in motion. The range of recognition targets such as the tank is 4500 meters.
