Background – Ukraine owes Russia money as part of its sovereign debt, which Ukraine has been allowed so far by the IMF to go unaddressed, with the half-claim that the debt is private debt, though this has not been entirely put forward and so it cannot be entirely challenged. At issue right now is that the IMF is breaking its own rules in several ways. – ed.
The Finance Ministry on Monday will give the necessary instructions to the Russian representative at the IMF to register a vote against granting Ukraine an additional tranche from the IMF, said Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.
“Today, we will give the necessary orders to our representative at the International Monetary Fund that when considering the extension of credit tranche of the IMF to Ukraine, we will vote against this decision, because we believe that it is taken in non-compliance with the rules in force”, Siluanov said at a briefing at MIA “Russia today”.
