The right to host Eurovision 2017 may be obtained by Russia, if Ukraine does not confirm its position before the end of October, as reported by Izvestia on Thursday.

As reported in the European Broadcasting Corporation, the EBC, If the authorities in Kiev cannot decide where to host the event, as well as its financing, it can be rightfully hosted by another nation.

“Ukraine won the competition in 2016, which means, they have won the right to host the event in their country. Nobody will retract their victory status. However, formalities should have been decided long ago. We are seeing that three cities are willing to host the event, yet there is no telling when the decision will be made. The latest possible deadline is the end of October.” says the EBC.

Australia, having secured second place, would be an obvious choice to host the event should Ukraine not be able to – however, the event must take place in Europe.

“According to event rules, Eurovision 2017 may just take place in Russia having taken 3rd place.” ,  says the EBC.
