The second Russian medic was killed today in Syria by injuries sustained from militants’ shelling of a Russian Ministry of Defense hospital in Aleppo. This has been announced by the Russian defense ministry’s spokesperson, Major General Igor Konashenkov, according to whom Russian and Syrian medics did everything they could to save her.

“However, the severe injuries proved to be fatal to this servicewoman. Medics are now fighting for the lives of another Russian colleague, a children’s doctor, who has been seriously injured,” Konashenko added.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense has demanded that the international community condemn the killing of military doctors and assign “proportionate accountability” to the perpetrators and those who ordered this shelling.

The militants shelled the medical tent of the mobile hospital while it was receiving and treating patients. In addition to medics, civilians who were being attended to by doctors also suffered. A journalist for the Arabic edition of RT, Somar Abudiab, was also wounded.

According to the defense ministry’s information, the shelling was launched by militants of the “opposition.” The ministry has emphasized that the blood of Russian military personnel “is on the hands of those who gave the order for this murder,” including the “terrorists’ patrons from the US, Great Britain, and France.”

The State Duma of the Russian Federation has stated that the attack on the hospital proves that the “moderate opposition” in Syria are the same as militants and terrorists. In turn, the Federation Council is ready to appeal to the parliaments of other countries with the demand to condemn the deliberate murder of Russian military doctors.

The medics, who arrived in the city the day before, have been offering aid to local residents from the liberated districts of eastern Aleppo. The mobile hospital includes, among other things, a children’s ward and surgical department, an x-ray room, and a laboratory. The specialists include pediatricians and obstetricians.
