Iraqi Forces Make New Gains in Mosul’s Old City

One more victorious today for the Iraqi Forces who are constantly advancing in Mosul.

According to the field reports, the Iraqi forces entered the Bab Al Toub neighbourhood, located in the in the old city of Mosul and liberated the Great Mosque of Al Nuri as well as Ashur hotel, Al Rimah square, Al Oughwat neighbourhood and Al Arbaa market. The village of Derna Joh, located on the east bank of the Tigris River, west of Mosul, was also liberated.

The achievements come, following heavy clashes with ISIS terrorists in the Bab Al Toub neighbourhood, during which the Iraqi ground fores were receiving aerial support.

Iraqi Federal Police chief, Raed Shakir Jawdat, confirmed that Iraqi Forces moved into Bab Al Toub neighbourhood and regained control of the Great Mosque of Al Nuri, the Ashur Hotel and the surrounding areas.

The battlefield is said to be infested with ISIS snipers, however, so far no casualties among the Iraqi Forces were reported.

The Iraqi forces are now actively evacuating the civilians. It was reported that more than 10% of the families who were previously trapped in the old city of Mosul, have already been evacuated. 

After successfully  liberating Mosul Al Jadida neighbourhood yesterday, the Iraqi Forces continue to assault ISIS positions at the Old Bridge, located in eastern Mosul.

A high – ranking Iraqi officer said the Iraqi Forces already regained more than a third of all areas in western Mosul since the start of the military campaign back in February 19th.
