Terror Attack in St. Petersburg Metro [PHOTOS+VIDEO]

Russian Police confirmed to TASS news agency that there were blasts at the Sennaya Ploschad square and Technological Institute metro stations in St. Petersburg. City officials have reported at least 10 people killed and around 25 injured. 

Russia’s prosecutor’s office has since reported 10 dead and 37 wounded.

The blast, which the authorities have since confirmed as a terrorist attack, was caused by an improvised explosive device and occurred at 14:30 local time at Sennaya Square Station. Emergency are working at the scene and evacuation is underway. A second “homemade” bomb has since been discovered and defused at Vosstaniya Square Station.

Photos of people escaping the damaged metro trains and caught in the smoke have emerged online. Until further notice, all metro stations in St. Petersburg remain closed. 

Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee has stepped up security at all critical transport facilities.
