Famous Cosmonaut Georgy Grechko passes away at 86

On the night of April 8th, Georgy Grechko, the 86 year old cosmonaut of the USSR, passed away. He was twice awarded ‘Hero of Soviet Union’. As an engineer and cosmonaut, he participated in the development of the first Soviet satellites and interplanetary probes. This was reported by the magazine “Space News.”

In 1966 he was enrolled in the 731st department of the Central Design Bureau as the head of the group of candidates for test cosmonauts, Central Design Bureau, Experimental Machines, and on May 27th, 1968 he began to work in the cosmonaut detachment of CDBEM. 

Grechko made three space flights in 1975, 1978 and 1985. In addition, the pilot is the author of the memoir “Cosmonaut No. 34. From Ignition to the Aliens.”
