Russia is facing pressure in connection with the ‘infringement’ on human rights of the “Jehovah’s Witnesses” organization.
On Thursday, the Russian Supreme Court declared the organization to be ‘extremist’. The work of the Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia has been banned. Representatives of the Jehovah’s Witnesses told reporters that they intend to appeal the decision of the Russian court at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). German Foreign Ministry and the office of EU foreign policy similarly commented in defense of the organisation.
However, political scientist Alexander Asafov states – “Jehovah’s Witnesses” cherish their reputation of “the persecuted” and attempt to accentuate it. This is an established mechanism on behalf of Western countries, to accuse Russia of undemocratic methods of government. Of course, the world’s “progressive community” will bring Russia not only claims from the ECHR, but also use this argument for political pressure on our country”, – said Asafov.
According to him, the organization presents itself as peaceful people studying the Bible, but it is nothing more than a destructive cult.
“They are trying to present the case, which allegedly only prohibits blood transfusions, but in fact the goal of Jehovah’s Witnesses is to turn the individual off from society, civil life, prevent its responsibilities – voting in elections, serving in the army. To do this, they use methods of manipulation and suppression of consciousness “, – added the analyst.
