Armed troops to the Donbass, which the Kiev administration immediately requested from the Americans, following the explosion of the OSCE vehicle n Lugansk. This is needed for the implementation of something that the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly announced, a repetition of the “Croatian scenario.” A cleansing of sorts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of its people.

Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko, writes “What will the “blue helmets” of the UN mean for the Donbass? We should take the example of Bosnia or Kosovo, where those “blue helmets” played the role of the official cover for Western-backed Islamic militants in their confrontation with Serbs. Obviously, in the case of the introduction of American-Polish troops under the UN flag in the Donbass, Kiev will be able to start preparing the Croatian scenario”, – the expert explains.

However, EU leaders are in no hurry to risk the lives of their citizens in the conflict in the Donbass. Instead, writes Bondarenko, Kiev has a calculated method to provoke the new US administration instead.

“Europe is not going to fight for Ukraine. That is why the initiative to establish an armed OSCE mission never came to fruition: the Germans and French are not prepared to to risk their observers in an armed conflict. However, the new ‘Washington cowboy’ in the White House may have something to offer. Poroshenko’s logic is somewhat clear; if Trump was able to slam Tomahawks against Syria and nearly launched missiles at a nuclear North Korea, why then could he not send his rangers to the Donbass?”– the author asks.

“Unfortunately for Ukraine, Poroshenko is in much the same position to Saakashvili. In 2008, also counting on US support, the Georgian leader launched ‘aggression against South Ossetia’ campaign against Russia, when it was Georgian troops who opened fire against Russia’s peacekeepers. In 2017, Poroshenko attempts to empirically test the readiness of the new US administration to support Kiev. In both cases, these regional conflicts are not critical to Washington. That is why the United States prefers to conduct themselves in the spirit of “portraying strength” only. The issue is that this image is of no help at all to the “portrayed victim” at hand.” – says Bondarenko.
