Venezuela is about to officially withdraw from the Organization of American States (OAS), following suspicion that the organization promotes international meddling in Venezuela’s internal affairs.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delsey Rodriguez already confirmed that Venezuela will officially inform OAS about its withdrawal on Thursday, adding that withdrawal process will take approx. 24 months to complete.

On Tuesday, the Organization of American States also announced that it will hold an emergency session on the Venezuelan crisis. No date was specified.

Previously, The Secretary of the Organization, General Luis Almagro, addressed a letter to the Permanent Council of the OAS and urged to suspend the membership of Venezuela, should the latter not grand the elections as demanded by the opposition groups.

It shall be noted that in the past Almagro referred to Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, as a “dictator”.
