Iran is commemorating its Army Day by holding a ceremony in the capital city of Tehran.

During a speech held on Tuesday, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that some of the world powers and their armies constantly intervene in the affairs of other states and even go as far as to support terrorism and thus disrespect the integrity of other states and the will of their people.

He then called on other states, particularly the Iran’s neighbours, to have confidence in the Iranian Armed Forces, stressing that they are acting defensively and not offensively, assuring they are not a threat to anyone in the region or the world as their primary task is to guarantee peace and stability and not attack anyone.

He also pointed out that the Iranian military force of today cannot be compared to what it was back in the days of the Iran-Iraq war, asserting that the Iranian Armed Forces are the main guarantors of peace, stability, unity and integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that the Iranian government increased its defense budget by 145%. He then repeated the principle of the late Imam Khomeini that the Iranian Armed Forces shall not interfere in the sphere of politics and economy in the country.

Before concluding his speech, Rouhani said that the Iranian Armed Forces would respond harshly and decisively, should the Islamic Republic of Iran be faced with any form of external threat or aggression.
