The World Health Organization has confirmed at least 51 cholera-related deaths in Yemen since April.

The international organization further said that there are 2752 suspected cases of cholera throughout the country, with 58 cases already being confirmed.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said  tests confirmed high prevalence of cholera infection in at least 10 Yemeni provinces.

Situation is extremely difficult as more than half of Yemen’s medical facilities and hospitals were destroyed in heavy bombardment and other types of miltary aggression, that is since March 2015 being conducted by the Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition against this impoverished country. In addition, at least 2/3 of the population is deprived from the clean, drinkable water.

In the capital city of Sanaa , the level of cholera infections is said to be the largest in the country and currently stands at around 34.6%. Cases and symptoms were discovered in many other cities as well, Hodeidah, Hajjah and Aden including.

Social media activist are currently sharing information on spread of the disease, which is otherwise very sparse due to lack of  proper communication channels that were destroyed in war.

The cholera epidemic in Yemen is said to have faded at the end of the year 2016, however, it became increased in recent months due to destruction of Yemen’s medical facilities and sewage system by the Saudi-led coalition.

The last time when the world was informed about the mass spread of cholera was back in 2008, when MSF posted details about the spread of the disease in one of the refugee camps in Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A cholera disease can be fatal and can kill a patient within hours if not treated carefully and with necessary antibiotics.
