Libyan authorities confirmed the arrest of Ramadan Abedi, father of Salman Abedi, a 22-year old terrorist from Manchester of Libyan background, who killed 22 people at Manchester Arena, during Ariana Grande concert on Monday evening.

The arrest is said to have occurred yesterday.

Before arresting the father, the authorities in Libya reportedly arrested Abedi’s younger brother named Hesham as well.

Meanwhile, sources at British Metropolitan Police announced that a fifth person was arrested in connection with the attack, during a raid in the town of Wigan, located 26km north-west of Manchester city.

At the time of the arrest, the person was in possession of “suspicious package” which is currently being examined.

Four other persons are also held in custody, three of whom were arrested during the raids in southern Manchester on Tuesday night.

The authorities are on the lookout for more suspects as they believe that an entire terrorist cell could be behind the attack, given the difficulty of manufacturing such improvised explosive device that was used at Manchester Arena.

Terrorist group ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack.

It is noteworthy that the British security service has been monitoring Abedi in the past due to his ties to the radical groups. It is not known why Abedi’s intents were not foiled.
