Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saudi Arabia is behind a pair of terror attacks that devastated Tehran last week.

During a speech, held at the 2017 Oslo Forum, an event which also saw participation of the former US Secretary of State John Kerry and the head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, as well as the foreign ministers of Norway and Indonesia, Zarif said it’s perfectly clear Saudi Arabia wants to wage its war inside Iran.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir has already responded to the accusations and wrote on his Twitter profile that such statements pose a “direct threat”.

Iranian Foreign Minister also revealed that Tehran has reliable and sufficient information about the role of Saudi Arabia in supporting  and funding the terrorist groups, namely those operating alongside the eastern and western borders of Iran, particularly in Balochistan, adding that in the past Saudi Arabia used the territory of the neighbouring states to launch attacks on Iran.

“We remain vigilant and carefully monitor the movements of terrorists on our borders, especially the eastern ones,” Zarif was heard saying.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also discussed the ongoing Gulf crisis, and said that in the current circumstances, it is necessary to resolve tensions between Qatar and Saudi Arabia through dialogue.

“We want security of all neighboring countries, Saudi Arabia and Qatar including”, he said, adding “Security and stability of all countries in the region are highly important for Iran.”

He then called for a development of a permanent mechanism that would allow establishing a sufficient regional security apparatus, a thing badly needed in the current situation as it would significantly lower the level of terrorist threat.

“For us Saudi Arabia’s security is as important as is the security of Qatar or any of our other neighbors”, adding that Iran has always been able to resolve all security related matters in a timely manner.

Zarif also said Iran is one of the safest countries in the region.

“If we exclude the recent unfortunate incident, we can see Iran is one of the safest countries in the region, a thing further evident by the fact that as many as 41 million voters decided to head to the polls in a recent election in order to cast their votes and thus show their willingness of contributing towards stability in the country, the kind of opportunity which is not available to every inhabitant of the region“, Zarif was heard saying, adding that by terror attacks terrorists are only expressing their frustration and dissatisfaction with the election process and the results.

Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his desire to create a permanent political mechanism for the region that would solve things through consultation, dialogue and common decision making, especially as regards sensitive matters.

He hinted at something similar to the Helsinki Accords which helped to end the Cold War.

Last Wednesday, ISIS carried out a pair of terror attacks, targeting two of the most symbolic places in the Islamic Republic of Iran -parliament building and the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini, the late leader of the 1979 Iranian revolution.

At least 12 people were killed and many more were left wounded.

Majority of the casualties were employees working at both places.

ISIS has claimed responsibility since.

Some of the attackers were reportedly disguised as women.

On his Twitter account, Zarif said recent developments made Iran’s long-standing proposal for an inclusive regional dialogue forum in the Persian Gulf even more imperative.

He also reminded that fear-mongering and hysteria about Iran misled the West to a degree it started tolerating the global promotion of Salafism, Wahhabism, and other religious extremes, resulting in the rise of Al Qaeda, ISIS, Al Nusra Front, etc..
