The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Petr Pavel, said the Alliance would oppose Moscow at all levels, but at the same time does not believe that Russia has aggressive intentions against the Western bloc, “Politico” reports.
General Pavel explained that despite Russia’s intentions remain unclear; the growth of its military potential is undeniable.
“We are experiencing a large-scale modernisation of the entire Russian army,” Pavel said.
The general quoted the deployment of ballistic missiles in Kaliningrad Oblast and Crimea as evidence of Russia’s military growth. However, for Pavel, such evidence doesn’t show that Moscow is preparing to strike the western bloc.
“We cannot say with certainty that Russia has aggressive intentions against NATO,” Pavel said.
