Foreigners who apply for Russian citizenship may soon be required to take an oath. The idea of such a ceremony was offered by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.

“When people join the army, they recite an oath. When a person obtains citizenship of our country, there needs to be a similar solemn act by which they confirm their intention to become a citizen of our country, to comply with our laws, traditions, to respect these traditions, our history “, – said the head of state.
The two also discussed the conditions for cancellation of Russian citizenship. According to Volodin, it would be right to cancel an already-granted citizenship if the person had been convicted of terrorism.
“We need to consult with the Constitutional Court, of course. But I generally agree with this position,”– said the Russian president.
