Delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, headed by Dr. Bashar Al Jaafari, has arrived at the UN Headquarters in Geneva on Tuesday morning, in order to attend the 7th round of talks on settlement of the Syrian crisis.

So far, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic has held two meetings with Staffan de Mistura, UN’s special envoy for Syria.

According to de Mistura, it is expected the outcome of the latest session of talks which formally began yesterday, will once again be positive.

De Mistura pointed to the need of taking advantage of the positive results, achieved during the previous sessions held in both, Geneva, and Astana, while also noting that the recent G20 summit in Hamburg will have a highly positive impact on Syria’s security stability in the future, as several high-level meetings with focus on the Syrian crisis were held during the summit, in addition to the ceasefire agreement on easing the tensions in the southwest of Syria being reached, following several rounds of negotiations between Russian and American officials.

Yesterday, de Mistura held a meeting with ambassadors of the UN Security Council states in order to inform them about the achieved progress and the most important issues, regarding the 7th round of talks.

The last round of talks on settlement of the Syrian crisis in Geneva was held between May 16th and 19th.

During that time, the Syrian delegation, also headed by Dr. Al Jaafari, participated in a number of talks and sessions with various UN officials, with discussions themselves being focused, first and foremost, on the issues of counter-terrorism, governing, constitutional reforms and elections.
