NATO countries are ready to support the democratic aspirations of Ukraine, however, they will not war with Russia for this cause.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with DW, by the Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament, MP from the Free Democratic Party of Germany, Aleksander Graf Lambsdorff.
He pointed out that NATO countries generally have no desire to bring the Ukraine into the alliance, and then get involved in a conflict with Russia.
“I see a willingness to stabilize the situation in Ukraine, to contribute to its democratic development, its economic growth. But compliance with Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which considers an attack on one NATO country an attack on all NATO countries, I do not see a readiness to abide by this”, – said the German politician.
Ed: This kind of response presupposes that Russia ‘attacked’ the Ukraine in some way, when in fact – it could have brought in its forces, for example during the illegal government coup in 2014 – but didn’t.
