Syrian forces managed to take control over the key strategic town of Al Rusafah, located in the countryside of Raqqah province.

In the past few days, the Syrian Army has managed to regain more than 1500 square kilometers of land in Raqqah province, beginning with the surrounding areas of Al Rusafah and continuing towards Ethraya in the eastern countryside of Hama province.

This is a great achievement which will positively affect the Syrian Army’s future efforts against ISIS in the Syrian Desert.

In addition, the Army has managed to cut off ISIS supply routes between Raqqah and the countryside of the town of Salamiyeh in Hama province, and which is now completely surrounded.

According to military sources, this will eventually allow for complete annihilation of a major ISIS hub in Uqayribat and the surrounding villages.

The areas holds a great economic significance as it contains several oil fields.

It should be noted that Al Rusafa includes important archaeological sites and a landmark castle. Some of the sites, however, sustained some damage due to fighting.

Meanwhile, in the eastern province of Deir Ez Zour, Syrian Air Force carried out series of intense strikes on Monday morning, targeting ISIS hideouts and movements on Raqqa – Deir Ez Zour Highway, and destroying 4 machine-gun-equipped vehicles.

20 ISIS terrorists, among them the self proclaimed ISIS leaders known as Abu Al Qaqa Al Albani and Safwan Al Yassin, were killed in the clashes in the town of Muhassan, located 20 km east of Deir Ez Zour city.

Further clashes with ISIS terrorists broke out in the village of Al Baghiliyeh, surrounding areas of the Syrian Army Regiment 137, Al Panorama and the cemeteries, during which, scores of the terrorists were left dead or injured.

Following the implementation of the Russia-brokered ceasefire agreement for the southwest of Syria, new gains were reported in the province of As Suwayda where Syrian Army and its allies took control of several strategically important villages, towns and hills in the eastern countryside of the province, after a great number of the terrorists were eliminated.
