UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Qarqash, revealed that Qatar has, along with Turkey, played a major role in turning the Syrian crisis into a full-scale armed conflict and a long lasting war.

In a fiery statement, while visiting Britain, Qarqash stressed that there is a need to carefully monitor the ongoing diplomatic crisis between Qatar and some of the remaining GCC states and Egypt, expressing his belief that pressure exerted on Doha has finally started to “bear fruit”, adding that historically, Qatar has always been funding terrorism at the highest level.

He then called on Qatari leadership to cease its support for extremist organizations, noting that a regional solution and an international monitoring of the situation are needed.

“We want to make sure that Qatar, a country with a monetary reserve of $ 300 Billion, no longer sponsors any of the jihadist groups “, Qarqash was heard saying, though not giving any details on the proposed monitoring of the situation.

In June, the ruling regimes of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt cut all ties with Qatar, citing terrorism and meddling in internal affairs as the two main reasons behind their decisions.

Since then, the aforementioned countries imposed restrictions on Qatar, which includes the travel ban and closure of the airspace.

On June 22nd, the four countries also presented a list of demands to Qatar.

Among demands to lift the blockade and restore relations, there were cessation of relations with Iran and the closure of a TV Network Al Jazeera.

Doha has since responded to these demands, claiming they were “unrealistic.”
