The Associated Press news agency has quoted some unnamed US officials as saying that the White House administration is seeking to inspect military sites in Iran in order to test Tehran’s compliance with the principles of the nuclear deal.

The US President Donald Trump reportedly still wants to see the Iranian nuclear deal being torn apart, with the latest demands representing a much tougher American approach to Iran, in order to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The White House is not only trying to police the existing deal in a stricter manner, it also wants to fix what Trump’s aides previously used to call “serious flaws” in the historic deal, out of which Trump is likely to withdraw from, should a quick solution would not be found.

That effort also includes discussions with European countries to negotiate a follow-up agreement to prevent Iran from resuming nuclear development after the deal’s restrictions expire in about a decade, the officials said. The officials weren’t authorized to discuss the efforts publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

If Tehran rejects the new inspections, the White House could have legitimate grounds to accuse Iran of violating the nuclear deal and thus announcing its cancellation, the agency said.

It is noteworthy that the United States would first need an approval of the International Atomic Energy Agency and other relevant international bodies in order to be granted permission to organize the inspections, however, as of yet, Washington has not yet made any progress in that direction and did not provide any evidence to back the legitimacy of its claims either.
