The battle for combined Iraqi forces to liberate the ISIS-held city of Tal Afar has officially ended with the former capturing all areas of the embattled city.
It took the Iraqi Army the Popular Mobilization Units only a mere seven days of operations to completely expel the terrorist group from their last major bastion in northwest Iraq.
The city which had a similar pre-war population to that of Raqqa’s, about 200,000 people and was the center of Iraq’s Turkmen minority, was defended by only about 1,800 jihadists who were defeated in only 7 days.
Many of those were not killed in the operation to liberate the city either escaped into Iraq with their families or were captured by the Iraqi forces.
