On Monday, the Jordanian king Abdullah II met with the US Defense Secretary James Mattis.

According to the Jordanian Petra Agency, the two sides discussed military and defense cooperation between the countries, and the support provided by the United States to the Kingdom in these fields.

The meeting was also focused on the current situation in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian crisis and the developments in Iraq, namely the fight against ISIS terrorists, as well as about de-escalation zones in Syria, and Raqqah operations.

The two sides reviewed the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis, while also noting the relative stability in the newly established de-escalation zones in the south of Syria.

Mattiss stressed the US administration’s support for Jordan and its desire to provide all necessary means to increase the support so that Jordan will be able to face all the challenges.

It is noteworthy that, both Jordan and the US train and supervise the jihadist groups, operating in the south of Syria.
