A total of 84 people were killed and 93 others left injured as a result of a twin car bomb and gun attack in southern Iraq that yesterday targeted a restaurant and a security checkpoint at the highway connecting the Iraqi provinces of Muthanna and Nasiriyah, located 375 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, the sources said.

“The number of victims of the terror attack has now reached 177, out of which 84 people were killed and 93 left wounded, among them being travelers from the Islamic Republic of Iran”, a statistical source said.

On Thursday, the police authorities of Nasiriyah issued a statement, saying that the terrorist attack, carried out by ISIS terrorists wearing suicide belts, targeted a restaurant and a nearby security checkpoint.

The statement added that the Iraqi security forces killed an armed man wearing an explosive belt, and who was traveling in a GMC vehicle. Another suicide bomber also targeted the citizens who tried to move away from the bombing site.
