Petro Poroshenko has signed the scandalous law of Ukraine No. 2145-VІІІ “On Education”, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, causing outrage with both national minorities inside Ukraine and the authorities of several neighboring countries.

“This is one of the main reforms because the future of the country depends on no other reform than on education.” assures Poroshenko.

In the press service of Poroshenko, it was noted that “the law enhances the role of the state Ukrainian language in the educational process. The law provides equal opportunities for all, because it guarantees each graduate a high level of language proficiency, necessary for a successful career in Ukraine. “

“Ukraine has demonstrated and continue to demonstrate this attitude to the rights of national minorities, which corresponds to our international obligations, is in harmony with European standards and is a model for neighboring countries,” asserts Peter Poroshenko.

On September 5, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general the draft law “On Education”, which, in particular, determines that the language of the educational process must exclusively be Ukrainian. Thus, it is proposed that in Ukraine, compulsory education in the Ukrainian language for pupils belonging to national minorities is introduced from grade 5.

This innovation caused a protest both in Ukraine itself, in particular, in Transcarpathia, and in a number of neighboring countries. Hungary appealed to the OSCE, the UN and the EU. The Parliament of Romania adopted a declaration of the rights of minorities in Ukraine.
