Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to visit several Latin American countries, Argentina including.

His tour will begin on Monday, and more than 25 years after an attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires.

Israel reportedly seeks to expand its economic and trade ties with new regions, as well as to establish ties with the countries that could vote in its favour at UN sessions where Israel is often being criticized for its settlement policy.

Netanyahu, who will leave Israel on Sunday, will tour Argentina, Colombia and Mexico between September 11th and 15th, before participating in the UN General Assembly session in New York.

This is Netanyahu’s first visit to Latin America as a prime minister during his term in office.

“We are currently seeking to strengthen relations with Latin America as it is a huge market”, Netanyahu said.

He then pointed out that the international community pays less attention this year to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when compared to the previous years.

“The implicit assumption is that if we reach an agreement with the Palestinians, which is what we always want, the world will open its doors to us, which will undoubtedly be helpful, but the world will welcome us even without it”, Netanyahu added.

But the Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie said he was concerned about the relations between Israel and the rest of the Middle East.

Netanyahu’s visit to Argentina on Monday and Tuesday is supposed to allow the strengthening of trade and ties between the two countries.

An Argentine foreign ministry official stressed that a “good opportunity to increase investment and trade exchanges” awaits both countries.
