The Ukrainian-American exercises named Rapid Trident-2017 begin September 11 in the Lviv region of Ukraine. They will last until September 23.

It is expected that 2,500 soldiers from 15 countries will take part in the maneuvers this year. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the US Army delegation numbers almost 400 people. It is also assumed that large contingents will arrive from Moldova, Romania, Poland. The exercises will be held at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security (ICMP) of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sagaidachny in Lviv.

“The current exercises will be held on a larger scale than in previous years. The joint training gives us a good chance to obtain the criteria and standards that exist in NATO countries, and our partners – the opportunity to learn the experience of Ukrainian fighters obtained during hostilities.”
– said Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak.

During the exercises, the Armed Forces will work out their actions during a conditional military conflict, “including in the east of the country.” In particular, the focus of the participants will be focused on the preparation of the interethnic headquarters and battalions of a separate assault and mechanized brigades.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also claims that the Rapid Trident-2017 was not developed in response to the Russian-Belarusian exercise “West-2017”, which will be held on September 14-20.

“Servicemen from different countries, first of all, work on joint actions in order to find full mutual compatibility in the performance of various tasks, peacekeeping missions and stabilization” – said the head of the training press service Anton Mironovich.
