Four days ahead of the parliamentary election, posters can be seen in the center of Berlin, and not far from Reichstag.

There would be nothing unusual about these posters, if it wasn’t for the photo of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the text that reads “Vote Putin for Chancellor” right below it.

The posters, which are designed in the style of those used in the CDU’s election campaign, shine a light on the huge gap between the policies of the German government and the actual public opinion on Russia.

According to an opinion poll by Forsa, the German Institute for Social Research and Statistical Analysis, majority of the Germans are against sanctions imposed by the US on Russia.

At least 83% of the respondents expressed their opposition to the controversial move made by the US Congress.

In addition, more than 3/4 of the respondents believe that through these sanctions, the US is only trying to strengthen its geostrategic position.

Forsa has also asked the participants whether their level of confidence in Putin was lower, larger or about as equal to that in Merkel.

31% of the supporters of the left-wing die Linke party said they had more confidence in the Russian state, while 30% of Alternative für
Deutschland supporters also expressed the same opinion.
