A Saudi soldier was killed in clashes with the Houthis on the border area between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, amid escalating battles and exchanges of artillery fire between the two sides.

This is the third Saudi soldier to be killed in a week, bringing the death toll at the border (one of the war’s most depleted fronts) to 74 since May 10th, the official Saudi sources said.

On Monday, the border area witnessed heavy fighting between the Houthis and Saudi forces, according to the media.

The Yemeni channel Al Masirah said that forces of the former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh and their Houthi allies carried out an offensive against the positions of the Saudi Army, located opposite of Al Khadra port, Slatah and Tel Al Bayda in Najran area, in the very south of Saudi Arabia.

The channel also said that Saleh/Houthi resistance forces were able to thwart an attempt by the Saudi forces to march on the Aleeb mountain range off Najran.

Although Saudi authorities did not give any official statement as regards the border situation on Monday, some of the field reports claim that Saudis managed to repel a Houthi attack in Al Shorfa area in Najran, killing “dozens” of the fighters.

Despite some of the reports supported their claims by showing the photos of what was said to represent the captured Houthi prisoners, they can nevertheless not be independently verified.

In addition, the Saudi side frequently likes to resort to propaganda in order to cover-up the losses dealt by the Houthis.
